Jan. 29, 2011: Love Collector, Blind Shake, Dikes of Holland, Shitty/Awesome

Lovely night at Beerland with:
1. The Zoltars (only caught a few songs by them and took no pictures) but I dug 'em;
2. Shitty/Awesome (from Oklahoma - it's OK) who thankfully landed closer to the Awesome side of that equation;
3. Dikes of Holland were rockin' in that instrument-switching way of theirs;
4. The Blind Shake from Minneapolis tore the place a new one (seriously, they rocked the hell outta the joint);
5. Love Collector played a great set (they were all in fine form, including Yazzie, the Navajo plumber).

Jan. 27, 2011: Lola-Cola @Red 7

This was my first time seeing Lola-Cola and they were a lot of fun. I didn't take a lot of pictures 'cause there was already a glut of photo/videographers. Dave's videos should be pretty fun though, so I can't wait to see those.

Jan. 22, 2011: OBN IIIs @Beerland

OBN IIIs rocked the shit outta Beerland at their record release show....and why the hell weren't you there?

Jan. 19, 2011: Strange Attractors

Strange Attractors played this installment of the Wednesday night Top of the Pops series at the United States Art Authority.

Jan. 15, 2011: A Night of Diverse Musics

Part I: Shane Shane opened for Big Freedia and Kool Keith @ the Mohawk outside stage. Shane Shane was frickin' hilarious. Big Freedia was bumpin'. Lisa D. was into it and we got to see "another" side of her. I left two songs into Kool Keith's set 'cause I had somewhere else to be... plus, I got tired of being out in the rain.

Part II: Unfortunately, I missed the Tempo Tantrums and the Flesh Lights @Hole in the Wall. But fortunately, I got there in time for the main entree: The mighty Sons of Hercules fronted by the one and only Frank Pugliese! They put on a hell of a show!

Jan. 14, 2011: The Ugly Beats kickin' ass @the Mohawk

What? Already the 14th of January and this was only the second time I'd seen the Ugly Beats this year? I must be slipping. Anyway, as stated above, they kicked ass at the Mohawk

Jan. 8, 2011: Free Week Saturday

Last day of my free week @Beerland and @Emo's. I'd never seen Coma in Algiers before and they were a very nice surprise! ELVIS was as unsettling as always, and that's a good thing. The Chumps killed it at Emo's to put a nice finish to the proceedings!

Jan. 7, 2011: Free Week Friday

Free Week Friday @Beerland. I'd never seen the Bad Lovers before and they kicked ass. I've seen Manikin a time or twenty, and they always rock. The Damn Times were active during my time living in the musical desert (i.e. not in Austin), but I'm glad they played this gig 'cuz they were frickin' great! I hope they keep playing together. This was also the first chance I got to hear the Hex Dispensers' new lineup. As expected, they too brung the rock!

Jan. 6, 2011: Free Week Thursday

2nd night of my free week @Emo's with the Ugly Beats and the rest of the bands @Beerland with Teenage News, Love Collector, Flesh Lights and OBN IIIs. Waaaaay fun!

Jan. 5, 2011: 1st show of the year (Free Week Wednesday)

I got a late start to Free Week this year. I missed the shows on the first weekend, but I still saw some great stuff, starting on Wednesday at Emo's with Planets, Flesh Lights, ELVIS, Shapes Have Fangs and A Giant Dog.
