Tempo Tantrums and French Inhales @the Parlor; Bad Lovers and Holy Wave @Beerland. The Tempo Tantrums brought the R'n'R spirit, as is their custom. The French Inhales presented an elegant yet fuzzy, counterpoint. The Bad Lovers brought the goods. They are always so good. Holy Wave played Bowie songs, and well.
Feb. 25, 2011: The Parlor & Beerland
Feb. 20, 2011: The Really Rottens, Uppers, Downtown Struts
The inside stage at the Mohawk was the setting for the Really Rottens' debut show! They were great! Uppers kicked ass too! Downtown Struts (from Chicago) played last.
Feb. 18, 2011: The Ripe @Club DeVile; Sons of Hercules @Beerland
The Ripe returned after a few months away due to injury (their drummer Nick had a broken arm) and played a cool set @Club DeVille. The Sons of Hercules kicked ass @Beerland.
Feb. 11, 2011: Valentine's Massacre Party
The Valentine's Massacre Dance with the Golden Boys, Lola Cola, the French Inhales, and the Early Stages at Beerland. DJ's Dogbreath and Edugé spun records between bands.
Feb. 10, 2011: Paul J's Birthday/OBN IIIs Record Release
Scrabble Robot, We Know Where You Live, The Stuffies and the OBN IIIs helped celebrate Paul J's (Scrabble Robot) birthday and the release of the OBN IIIs second 7" single at Beerland.
Feb. 5, 2011: Ugly Beats @Carousel Lounge
The Ugly Beats and the Transgressors (I was lame and didn't take pictures of them) put on another great show at the Carousel Lounge. Trust me, you're sorry you missed it.
Feb. 4, 2011: Girls Rock Camp Benefit @Beerland
Other than the a-hole photographer (it wasn't me this time) that was onstage during the Flesh Lights set, it was a great night at Beerland. Cruddy opened, but I only got to hear a couple of songs. Also rockin' it were Bottle Service, Planets. Yellow Fever also rocked it, but in a much less overtly rock'n'roll fashion. I still can't believe everyone, including me, was too nice to tell that photog to get off the stage.
Jan. 29, 2011: Love Collector, Blind Shake, Dikes of Holland, Shitty/Awesome
Lovely night at Beerland with:
1. The Zoltars (only caught a few songs by them and took no pictures) but I dug 'em;
2. Shitty/Awesome (from Oklahoma - it's OK) who thankfully landed closer to the Awesome side of that equation;
3. Dikes of Holland were rockin' in that instrument-switching way of theirs;
4. The Blind Shake from Minneapolis tore the place a new one (seriously, they rocked the hell outta the joint);
5. Love Collector played a great set (they were all in fine form, including Yazzie, the Navajo plumber).
Jan. 27, 2011: Lola-Cola @Red 7
This was my first time seeing Lola-Cola and they were a lot of fun. I didn't take a lot of pictures 'cause there was already a glut of photo/videographers. Dave's videos should be pretty fun though, so I can't wait to see those.
